1.Explain how you would explain the use of geometry in interior and building design in India?
2.What explanation can you offer to justify the ornamental “exuberance” of Indian designs?
You don’t need to research or name these particular buildings.
You should only comment on the images (attached) based on the material presented in the photos (attached from the book Ireland, Jeannie. “History of Interior Design”. Fairchild Books Second Edition, 2018. p 223, 224)
EXAMPLE:
From observing the photos displayed on the discussion post, the first form of Indian architectural geometry is the arch of the first walkway. This style would be called a pointed cinquefoil arch. I notice that not only one type of arch is used for the same room. Arches such as three centered and four centered. The layout of the room from my opinion looks like an atrium with small halls on the sides with connected rooms. The center of the room is a large open space that seems like a gathering area for a family. A living room. The ceiling of the main center room is about 10 feet tall and at the center a magnificent chandelier. The design of the exterior building is very detailed with no visible areas that are plain. Figures are carved into the base of a column portraying visual structural strength. Colors and floral shapes are integrated into the walls, columns, and ceilings. I do not recognize these on the floors mainly because of the use of carpets and furniture. Decorative elements show the importance of how Indian culture is shown on the interior. There is a certain elegance of how visually appealing the colors of gold, orange, dark green, and yellow look on the interior. I did not see use of colors on the exterior though, I believe that it probably was not necessary since the intricate design of the stone made up for vibrant colors and floral designs.
