Students are required to develop a Research Proposal regarding criminal justice or criminology related issues. The Research Proposal is composed of three sections: 1) Introduction (topic, statement of problem and purpose of study), 2) Literature review, and 3) Research methodology. The required referencing style is APA. Guidelines for APA referencing are available at the American Psychological Association website (www.apa.org

The research proposal should contain the following sections:
Title page
Abstract
Introduction
Literature Review
Methods
References
The Research Proposal should use: (1) double-spacing, (2) Times New Roman, (3) 12-point font size, and (4) 1-inch margins for top, bottom, right, and left.
The length of the proposal is basically contingent on the subject matters. However, the minimum number of pages should be at least 10 pages, not including Title-page, abstract, Tables & Figures, and reference pages. Each student is strongly encouraged to be advised by the UAB Writing Center and to use a minimum of seven scholarly journal articles.
Proposal should:
(1) Clearly express the research purpose and its importance (10 points)
(2) Be well organized and logically consistent throughout the entire proposal (10 points)
(3) Have relevant literature reviews (25 points)
(4) Have appropriate methods (25 points)
(5) Correctly use the APA Style (in-text citation and reference) (10 points)
(6) No grammar/punctuation errors (10 points)
(7) Meet all basic requirements (e.g., format, references, page length, etc.) (10 points)
The Research Proposal also should be generated newly for this class. Previously generated papers for the other classes will not be allowed to submit for this class. All submission will be automatically checked by the www.turnitin.com.
