In 2020, COVID-19 spread through many incarcerated populations (i.e. remand centres and prisons) at an unprecedented rate. In the event of such a breakout in South Australia, the government proposes to release of some offenders early in order to reduce the prison population (as a way of reducing the likelihood of transmission across incarcerated populations).
Discuss about a policy brief to inform busy Ministers about a topical criminal justice issue that is under current consideration by the South Australian government, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Your brief (essay) will also need to develop (and state) an argument that shapes this discussion. This means that you will need to take a position on the issue and recommend whether the policy should be implemented. To accomplish this, your brief must review and discuss the CURRENT research on your chosen topic (at least 7 sources). It must be properly referenced and scholarly.
Regardless of your topic, your brief should consider the following: (1) the premise of the statement/problem, (2) why the initiative might appear attractive, and most importantly, (3) evaluate the merits of the policy initiative.
