Media and Victimization
This week’s required readings discuss crime victims’ participation in the criminal justice system and the impact that it has on the victim. Contemporary victimization is multifaceted. On the one hand, advancements in technology and knowledge acquisition have allowed investigators and law enforcement officials to effectively and efficiently address instances of victimization. On the other hand, residual effects of advancements have also presented negative costs to society and to individual victims and their families.
Address the following in your initial post:
Analyze the evolution of the media’s role in assisting and hindering investigation of victimization.
Critique the criminal justice system’s response to victimization and to media coverage of crime.
Your initial post must contain approximately 400 words and reference at least two scholarly sources in proper APA format.
Guided Response: Please respond to at least two of your colleagues’ initial posts. In the same way that your initial posts should be substantive, response posts to your colleagues should also be meaningful and advance the discussion of the issues, ideas, and questions that were raised in the initial posts. While you can be supportive of your peers by saying, “I agree” or “Wow, I never thought of that,” these same statements alone are not sufficient. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Day 7 of the week, and respond with robust dialogue to anyone who replies to your initial post.
