QUESTIONS
1) What aspects of the Columbian Encounter and Columbian Exchange made the prospect of colonization in the Americas appealing to Europeans? What aspects of the encounter and exchange made European conquest easier and why?
2) For New England, the Middle Colonies, and the Chesapeake, compare and contrast how the interaction between the First Nations in each specific area and the Europeans who invaded each area helped shape the direction and the development of those colonial areas. (Be sure to state in your thesis focuses on the interactions between the two sides in each area and whether they were similar or different.)
3) One historian has argued that the histories of New England and the Chesapeake were juxtaposed in the seventeenth century. He claims that New England began with a great deal of stability and then became an increasingly unstable colonial area, whereas the Chesapeake began with a great deal of instability and then achieved a stable path of colonial development. Do you agree with the thesis? Why or why not?
