Considered a “speaking document,” the Sundiata provides a fascinating insight not only into legends and customs, but also into value systems and wisdoms of historical Africa. Your essay must address the following problematics:
How and in what ways does the epic provide insight into the role of women in traditional African society? Use examples from the reading to support your argument.
How and in what ways does the epic shed light on Sudanic kingship and empire-building? Use examples from the reading to support your argument.
Note that whatever position/s you take on the above questions, you must support your argument(s) with evidence gathered from the sources made available to you in the course (the Sundiata, the course textbook and various other sources, including the Lesson Outlines). You must number the pages of your critique.
You must include a Word Count on the bottom of the last page of your critique.
