The essay should be written in third person. Even if it is your opinion, there is no need to say or keep saying “I think” or “I believe”. You are writing the piece so the reader knows this, and it only makes the writing more informal and wordy. The only exception to this is in case of personal anecdotal evidence which is appropriate to the context and logic. However, in this case, try to combine as many thoughts and senses as possible creating more compound complex structures in order to minimize the use of personal pronoun. In addition, do not address the reader directly by using “you” or giving commands which is second person.
