What’s more important: doing the right thing or doing things right?
Reminder of the Summa Format:
Your ‘title’ is a QUESTION
You list three objections (e.g., Obj. 1: ….
Obj. 2: ….
These ‘objections’ are two or three POWERFUL ARGUMENTS (NOT opinions!) showing the opposite of what you will try to argue for in the end. Find the strongest argument the opposition will make to what you believe. Use an example to illustrate.
Then comes your central section – your RESPONDEO which beings with the words ‘I respond that …’.
This is where you give your response to the opposition and put forth your most powerful arguments for why you hold this position. (Again! It is not an opinion paper!)
REPLIES: In light of your response you go back and reply to each of the objections raise before. E.g., ad 1 (to 1); ad 2 (to 2), etc.
Integrity:
Needless to say, all levels of your work must reflect your own personal and independent engagement of the text. Plagiarism, fabrication, deception, cheating, or enlisting another person to do your work are therefore unacceptable under the student code of conduct. Punishments may range from failure of the assignment to removal from the course.
ATTENTION (!!): All papers must be spell-checked, grammatically ship-shape, and structurally sound. You will be (severely) penalized for sloppy presentation. Please indicate the word-count when you submit them. See Rubrics below.
