To explicate a poem is to break the poem down and explain in detail what it means based on the text of the poem. It is an analysis of the poem.
The explanation of why the poem remains relevant is an explanation of why this is your opinion.
You do not need to do outside research for this essay, but if you do, be sure to cite your sources. Remember to make a Works Cited page that includes a citation for the poem you discuss.
