Choice #2: Evidence-Based Practice Review
Complete an evidence-based practice review and provide an in-depth analysis of an emerging public health problem or issue.
Include a published literature review and 2-3 key informational interviews (public health professionals must include media and policy involving experts in the area of interests).
Include lessons learned and recommendations (i.e., future directions for research and/or policy development) based on the evidence-based practice review and relevant information from key informants. For example, a problem statement could address the question, “What does it mean to have a healthy eating lifestyle?”
You could start with a literature review, followed by an interview with a nutritional media expert, an executive director of a non-profit organization working to address obesity among inner-city children, and/or a professional staffer working on state or federal legislation that addresses this emerging public health issue.
From the 6 Core Competencies in Public Health (Link Available on Overview page), select at least 2 core competencies and align them with your Culminating Experience. See the following examples.
Epidemiology & Biostatistics Competency #1: Describe preferred methological alternatives to commonly used statistical methods when assumptions are not met.

Take on a role in community assessment in collaboration with a local community agency or organization. »
Focus on a specific community health concern or population.
Use information that is either publicly available or from the organization itself to provide a broad perspective of the community health concern or population and to ascertain potential factors that can be leveraged to address the concern or aid the target population.
From the 6 Core Competencies in Public Health, select at least 2 core competencies and align them with your Culminating Experience. See the following examples:
Cultural & Diversity Competency #7: Develop public health programs and strategies that address the diverse cultural values and traditions of the communities being served.
