Read the following scenario and answer the following questions in your essay.
Aleshia, a preschool child care provider, has just completed her early childhood degree. She has been promoted to a teacher position at Little Acorn child care center where she has worked for the past six years. Little Acorn is struggling to keep the budget balanced. Because the program serves children from low-income families, the director is trying to keep the cost of care affordable, but the board of directors has stated that the program will not continue to operate if they continue to lose money. The director has recently implemented several cost-saving measures. Each morning and late afternoon when the number of children is generally low, the infants, toddlers, and preschool children are combined into one classroom. During this time, the ratio of children to adults is 8 to 1. The state ratio of preschool children to adults is 8 to 1 and the ratio of infants and toddlers to adults is 4 to 1 in the state where Little Acorn is located. Another cost-saving measure that the director has implemented is to eliminate the floating position that covered the teachers’ breaks. Instead, the director is having staff take their breaks during the children’s nap time. One teacher is responsible for 16 children during this time. However, the director says that because the children are sleeping this is not an issue.
