This assignment requires you to:
Part 1: Choose an example of a real-life employment relations issue which was live in the last 18 months.
The issue can be one of the following:
• An instance of collective conflict, e.g. a strike, a threatened strike, a walk-out, a boss-napping, a sit-in, a protest, a lock-out, an employment tribunal case involving multiple claimants.
• The negotiation of a collective agreement
• A successful or failed attempt to gain union recognition within an organisation for the purposes of collective bargaining
• The takeover, restructuring, downsizing or relocation of an organisation or its activities.
• Write a short story OR film script (2000 words) depicting this issue from the perspectives of the various stakeholders i.e. employees, management, senior management, and trade unions where applicable, using real and/or fictional characters. You should use the story to present and critically engage with the arguments on BOTH sides of the conflict.
• Your short story/film script should be based on the academic theories and media sources that you discuss in the annotated bibliography (see below). You should not have references in the short story.
Part 2: Write an annotated bibliography (2000 words) listing the sources you used to research the issue and discussing how you used them to shape the story.
• You must use academic sources and discuss relevant theories but you may also use media sources. You should demonstrate critical analysis of how these sources relate to the case you have written your story about. At least half of your sources should be academic sources.
• Examples of annotated bibliographies are provided on the aula module page.
• A separate reference list is not required.
