RA10: Drawing Inferences & Generalizations

Part A: Statistical Inference

Identify
the probability associated with the inferences drawn in the following
passages from results in journal articles. In cases of hypothesis
testing, identify the type and probability of a decision error. Use my example responses as a guide.

1)
“Before the matrix games were played, males expected to win
significantly more games than did females, F(1, 128)=5.71, p<.05.” 2) “It was also found that the subjects had higher expectancies of success when the experiment was conducted by a male experimenter than when it was conducted by a female experimenter F(1, 128)= 11.05, P<.01.” 3) “Risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection included older age (odds ratio, 1.2 per decade; 99% CI, 1.2 to 1.3).” Part B: Generalization Read Mook’s (1983) “In Defense of External Invalidity” (see attached) and answer the following questions in a brief paragraph each: Define external invalidity and describe various kinds of external invalidity. (hint: research is commonly criticized for being externally invalid in one of two ways). When is external invalidity a weakness in an experiment? When is it a strength? Explain why it may be a strength.
