Video Project Instructions
The main objective of the video project lab is to give students the opportunity to apply the knowledge of physical
concepts they have developed in the lecture to solve real world problems. Project problem may require that students
apply some of the several concepts developed in the lecture and outside of the classroom and it offers them the
opportunity to learn new things. Students will be required to develop their own theory to describe the physical
problem presented in the video. The project requirement column of the video list is a great resource to follow. Data
collected must fit the description of students’ theory. Note: If you select a topic, which hasn’t been covered in class,
you don’t have to give it up. It’s an opportunity for you to learn something new and you may contact your instructor
for help.
1. Look through the recommended list to select a video project. You may need to open the video file, play and
test it first. No need to rush!
2. If you and your partner decide on which video you want for your project, inform your instructor right away
who will in turn publish your decision so that no other group selects the same video. You must give your
instructor the video name e.g. E1940 (and not # 2).
3. No two groups can work on the same video.
4. Use the recommended guide for writing a formal report and make sure you quote the video file name as part
of your title e.g. One Dimensional Acceleration (E1640).
Opening Video File
5. Students can always access the videos using this link (App Stream link – https://tinyurl.com/warj58p).
They can follow instructions to enter the Stockton Academic Lab Desktop.
6. From Desktop, they can open the Physics ToolKit program from Course ApplicationsWorld in Motion
(select Run)Physics ToolKit Program 6.0 and find the video file they want.
7. From desktop, open Course Applications and then World in Motion.
8. Select Run. This brings up the Physics ToolKit 6.0 window. Select Browser followed by OK.
9. Select Return to Video Analysis.
10. Follow the path File/Open/Wim/Video to select the video file you want to view.
11. Double click the video file and select YES if you wish to use default data points (recommended) or NO if
you wish otherwise or want to place points by yourself.
12. Whether you choose YES or NO, be sure to play the file to understand the problem.
Check Out: The Physics ToolKit has two sub menus: Video (Play, <>, Data Set) and Window
(Back, Next). The Next button in the window is used for check out.
Data Analysis Choices: You must understand the aim of your project in order to determine the OPTION which
applies. Click on HELP for more information if you’re not sure.
Direction of Motion: Choose your direction of motion from your preferred axis.
Plots: After selecting the OPTION and DIRECTION which apply, the best thing is to choose all the plot items
(e.g. Position vs time, momentum vs time etc) even if you don’t need them. When you figure out what you need,
just discard the data you don’t need by not including in your report. Notice that, the Cover Sheet Page has an
extra sub menu called GRAPHS (<< graphs, Graphs>>, Slope, Area). Follow Graphs>> to copy data to Excel
for further analysis.
