Canvas. Reports submitted by any other means (email, Canvas messages, assignment comments,
etc.) will not be accepted.
• Reports must be completed individually, and all reports will be checked for originality.
• Please show all your calculations for Parts 3-5.
• The Equation Editor in Microsoft Word or Google Docs can be used to show
calculations.
• Scanned or photographed calculations can also be pasted into a document.
Outline
Part 1 – History and General Description
Please describe the following facts about your element. This section must be at least 250 words
long and must be in paragraph format.
• Discovery: who, when, and how
• What the element is used for
• Any significant compounds that it forms.
• Any health effects, beneficial or toxic.
• Interesting facts.

Part 2 – Specific Heat Capacity
Find the specific heat capacity of your element and calculate how much heat is required to raise
the temperature of 50.0 g of the element from 28.0 °C to 38.5°C

Part 3 – Isotopes
Determine the stable isotope(s) of your element and their percent natural abundance

Part 4 – Atomic Mass
Use the information about stable isotopes from Part 3 to calculate the atomic mass of your
element.

Part 5 – Number of Atoms in a Sample
Use the atomic mass calculated in Part 4 to calculate the number of atoms in 100.0 g of your
element.

Part 6 – References
You must cite at least 3 sources in your references section. You may use whatever reference
format you like (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.). Please do not copy information word-for-word from
your references.
