‣ Should contain at least 2 books and 1 article per building that discuss this building in detail (not as
part of a sweeping art-historical overview). Note that Wikipedia and other crowd-written sources
are not acceptable, nor are encyclopedias generally. Web pages must be analyzed carefully to
determine if they are suitable for an academic paper. Who is writing its material? Are they experts
in this field? Do they have an agenda (such as an auction house that wants to sell an object)? Be
sure that you are carefully vetting your sources and using the best, most reliable ones.
‣ Should be properly formatted in Chicago Style (see LRC sheets in the above folder) followed by a
roughly 150 word annotation or summary and evaluation of each source. Generally, annotations
seek to do the following:
‣ Summarize. What are the main arguments, topics covered?
‣ Assess. Is it a useful source? How does it compare with other sources in your project? Is the
information reliable? Are there any identifiable biases or goals?
‣ Connect. How does this source fit into your research? What did you learn? Was this source
helpful to you? How did it shape your argument? How can you use this source in your
project? How did it change the way you view your topic?
‣ Do not underestimate either the time required to complete these component or their value in the
formation of your project’s direction.

‣ 12 point; Times New Roman font; one-inch margins; double spaced
‣ Be properly cited using Chicago Style including footnotes
‣ Include a bibliography which cites all works engaged in the research project, not just the ones cited
within the paper.
‣ Include images placed after the text and bibliography, numbered and referred to as “Figure 1”,
“Figure 2”, and so on. These should also be properly cited.
‣ Be well written, grammatically correct, and organized thoughtfully including an introduction, clear
statement of thesis, a section dealing directly with each building as they relate to and support your
thesis, and conclusion
‣ Be completely free of plagiarism: intentional or unintentional
