1. Choose one of the questions appearing below. Next, compose an answer of about 250-300 words within a Word document. Then, cut and paste this essay and post it to our discussion board.
Questions to choose from:
(1) According to his characterization in Exodus, what kind of leader is Moses? What are his admirable qualities and what are his faults? What does it imply about God that he chooses this kind of man to lead his people?
(2) Scholars familiar with ancient Egyptians beliefs routinely interpret the ten plagues as actions intended that mock the gods of Egypt. Why? Which Egyptian gods are mocked? Explain this idea simply, based on your research.
(3) When used in biblical studies, what is a “type” or a “ typological interpretation”? What typological interpretations have Christians found in the story of the Passover (Exodus 11-13)?
(4) What is the basic outline of the covenant given by God through Moses on Mount Sinai? How does this “ten commandment” covenant differ from the “Abrahamic” covenant? Which do you see as preferable, if you were to live under a covenant? Are there any modern institutions that are similar to these two covenants?
(5) What is the reaction of the people to God’s goodness, after he rescues Israel from slavery in the land of Egypt and begins leading them towards the “promised land”? Does their behavior ring true? Do modern people act similarly?
(6) Why was the tabernacle so important in Israel’s history? What was its purpose? Are there any things in modern religious practice that function like the tabernacle once did in ancient Israel?
2. Write responses to the posts/questions of two different classmates (50-100 words)
3. Choose a passage or theme from Exodus that you especially liked—preferably one not covered much by our discussion—and in a “ final word” post, tell why you found this passage so compelling (100-150 words.
