Genesis

1. Choose one of the questions appearing below. Next, compose an answer of about 250-300 words within a Word document.

Questions to choose from:
(1)What are the main emphases or themes in the creation account (Genesis 1-2)? What do these emphases suggest about the God of the Bible?
(2) How is humanity characterized in Genesis chapters 3-11? According to this part of the Bible, what are the root causes of people’s repeated moral failures and alienation from God and one another? Does this depiction of humanity ring true to you?
(3) What does the threefold promise to Abraham contribute to the Bible’s portrayal of God? Is there anything in modern life that is similar to this patron covenant?
(4) Once Abraham receives his threefold promise from God, its fulfillment is threatened many times. How? When? By whom? What does the Bible convey when it shows that none of these threats were finally able to prevent the fulfillment of God’s three promises to Abraham?
(5) When used in biblical studies, what is a “type” or a “ typological interpretation”? What typological interpretations have Christians found in the story of Abraham being asked to offer his son Isaac (Genesis 22)?
(6) Was God faithful to Joseph or did he fail to do right by him? As you discuss this question, try to offer some reasons for both sides of the argument?
(7) When used in biblical studies, what is a “type” or a “ typological interpretation”? What typological interpretation have Christians found in the character of Joseph?

2. Write responses to the posts/questions of two different classmates (50-100 words)

3. Choose a passage or theme from Genesis that you especially liked—preferably one not covered much by our discussion—and in a “ final word” post, tell why you found this passage so compelling (100-150 words)

Read Genesis chapters 1-22 and 37:1–46:7 and 50:15-21 (I will put a link to where you could read these chapters)
