Academic Paper (Final Version) Assignment
Students are required to submit an argumentative research paper regarding a current
health issue. Any topic is acceptable if it is related to a current (within the last 5 years)
Canadian health issue. Broad topics such as obesity or cancer are not acceptable. You
must have a specific focus for your paper that is reflected in your thesis statement.
Length of Paper: 3000 words (not including title page and reference list), double-
spaced, using Calibri (11 point), Arial (11 point), Times New
Roman (12 point), or Georgia (11 point).
References Requirements for references are specific for this paper. You may
obtain information from online sources, but remember how to cite
such sources properly. To do well, you must have at least six peer-
reviewed journal articles and three other scholarly sources.
Scholarly articles include peer-reviewed journal articles, and
reports from government agencies or professional associations that
are part of the grey literature. A total of 12-15 references is
recommended.

Evaluation Criteria: The method that will be used to evaluate the quality of your
submission is clearly laid out in the marking rubric.
Format of the Paper: An abstract is not required. The introduction should describe the
topic, the particular focus, and include a clear thesis statement. The body should contain
information, including statistics, study results, or expert opinion with supporting
references. In the body of your paper, you should be prepared to build the argument
contained within your thesis statement and demonstrate your depth of understanding of
the topic. The conclusion is where you will summarize the issue by re-stating the main
points of your paper, and provide a “wrap-up” of your reflection and analysis contained
in the body.
Your references must follow APA style. Proper style means appropriate citations within
the text of your paper plus a page listing all citations at the end of the paper (titled
