an issue/topic related to mental health. choose a topic that explores
challenges, strengths, and/or resiliencies for persons living with
mental illness or a controversial topic related to mental illness
attending to social (class, power differences, economic disparity) and
cultural diversity (racial inequity, structural oppression, privilege,
or power differentials). Some examples of an appropriate presentation
topic could be about:
The debate about medicating children who live in poverty
Explore the relationship between culture norms and mental illness (in a specific way)
Racial trauma and helping professionals limited understanding of its affects on mental health
Homelessness and high rates of depression
These are just a few examples. If you have an idea…run by your professor…this is an opportunity to research an area of interest.
Be creative. Find something that is in recent news events or new
research emerging on a unique topic. The purpose of this mini-paper is
to augment the diagnostic learning in the class and allow you to learn
about the practical and experiential side of working with people who
have been diagnosed with a mental illness.

3 peer-reviewed studies (academic journal) PLUS at least 2 other
sources as information (reliable information from a .gov source. Sources
from .edu, .net. or .org are acceptable depending on the content).
