Assignment: Choose a topic from ONE of the following choices and write an argumentative essay in which you make a claim about the issue and attempt to convince your audience to accept your claim through the use of supporting evidence.
Topic choice 1
Read the articles by Surowiecki and Goldin from your textbook pages 533-537 and 537-539.
Then, write a Researched Argumentative Essay in which you argue for or against having a Universal Basic Income. Use these 2 articles as some of your evidence and then, find at least one other source to use in your argument.

Topic choice 2
Read the following articles on tuition-free college education:
“The Argument for Tuition-Free College” by U. S. Representative Keith Ellison of Minnesota (The American Prospect, 14 April 2019)
“Make College Free for All” by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (Washington Post, 22 October 2015)
“College Doesn’t Need to be Free” by Charles Lane, an editorial writer on fiscal policy (Washington Post 21 May 2015)
Then, write a Researched Argumentative Essay taking a position on the issue of tuition-free college. (You may need 1 or 2 more sources to support your point.)
Make sure that your essay includes the following:
an introduction containing a clearly stated and arguable thesis statement,
a body section in which you support your thesis/claim,
a refutation section in which you refute at least one major objection or counterargument.
a conclusion.
Length: Your essay should be between 500-800 words in length, not including the Works Cited page (which is on a separate page by itself). Note: That means full pages of text. See the example essay in Chapter 23 pages 621-627.
Formatting: Your completed assignment should be formatted using the most current MLA guidelines. See Purdue Online Writing Lab (owlpurdue.edu (Links to an external site.))
Organization: Your papers should demonstrate a strong sense of purpose and organization. Some discernible, albeit brief introduction and conclusion must be present. Body paragraphs should be well developed with some fairly detailed examples. Paragraphing should be reasonable with respect to length and topic. Sources: You MUST use 3-4 sources for this assignment. You need to remember to use in-text citations or mention your source also. All sources must be cited properly in the MLA Style. If sources are not cited properly, then the information from them is considered plagiarized and you will not pass this essay.
