(Interview with a police officer)
For your final paper poster presentation, you will either visit a police department and interview a police officer, or send a list of questions to a police officer by email. Your paper should be 3-4 pages in length.
For this assignment, you need to contact a person who works for a police department, visit his/her agency, and interview him/her in-person or send a list of questions via email.
You should ask the officer about the types of activities he or she does in a typical day. Ask questions to get a full scope of the internal workings of the police department. Ask about his/her perceptions on factors such as recruitment, promotion, retention, use of discretion, use of new technology in policing, Police handling of mentally ill, department policies regarding BWCs, use of force and vehicular pursuit, etc. Also, ask what the favorite and least favorite part of the job is. Based on his/her answers, write a three to four pages paper, in which you will summarize the interview, talk about the agency size and structure, policies/procedures, and how this visit/email communication impacted you (Note: I do not want this to simply be a summary of the interview/email).

– You are expected to use the textbook as a resource while analyzing what was said.
– Also, cite at least one peer-reviewed article (professional journals or electronic
journals are acceptable).
– You can also cite resources from internet (such as policeforum.org, policeone.com,
theiacp.org).
– If you are just summarizing the interview/the response you received and not
including your thoughts in the paper, you are not achieving the purpose of the assignment.
