The topic I choose is the belief in the image of God and how it coincides with the creation of the Earth. Support this reasoning.
Students are required to a FINAL CREDO PAPER due at the end of the semester. This paper takes the form of a
Credo (Latin= “I believe”). This paper shall be due no more than five (5) pages in length, double spaced, 12
point font, Times New Roman, in which students have the opportunity to ponder and articulate their views
about God, faith, truth, wisdom, et cetera. Throughout the semester, we will be considering various views on
God throughout the history of the Judeo-Christian tradition.
This paper will provide students an opportunity to reflect more critically and in greater depth on their own
beliefs in light of the knowledge they have accumulated throughout their reflections on lectures, readings, and
classroom discussions. Students will not be graded for their faith or religious beliefs, but according to their
ability to present their beliefs in critical discussion with the material covered throughout the term. Please
take special notice of this: I will grade you on your ability to express your own personal beliefs in dialogue
with course material. I do not grade students for their faith or lack thereof; I do not grade students on their effort
or purely on the basis of their writing. Students must learn to formulate an argument for what they do and do
not believe. They may appeal to scripture, tradition, reason, experience, or common sense. The key factor
depends on the student’s ability to demonstrate a solid grasp of the material and construct an intelligent,
coherent response to ideas from class. Here, you may draw on your own life-experience, logic, or other course
work or ideas that you have encountered in order to develop your own individual theology or philosophy of
life.
Be aware, however, that while original and creative thought is strongly encouraged, you must also try to be a
fair and generous critic of those ideas and theologians in this course that we are studying. We are not studying
them because they are easily refuted or because their views are no longer important, but because their
thought has impacted Christian faith and society in important ways. Such thinkers deserve to be understood
and appreciated for their contribution to Church and society. You are strongly discouraged from engaging in
superficial analyses, ad hominem (personal) attacks, or stereotypes, and encouraged to take your opponents’
arguments as seriously and charitably as you would like your opponents to understand you. Students are also
strongly encouraged to subject their own presuppositions to critical examination. What are the strengths and
weaknesses of your own views? What are your presuppositions? This paper encourages students to learn to
think for themselves in light of scripture, tradition, experience, science, and society today. Students will be
graded according to their 1) Depth of Content and Critical thinking; 2) Grammar; and 3) Style. The most
difficult and important of all of these is the depth of your critical thought. Please do not overlook this essential
factor when writing your paper
