Do they offer a sense of personal efficacy/satisfaction for the “mover?”

Case Study:
Let’s Move Campaign Analysis
In reviewing the public health campaign “Let’s Move” at https://letsmove.obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/, evaluate the following:
1. Did the campaign
create a case for the personal benefits of health?
2. Do they offer a
sense of personal efficacy/satisfaction for the “mover?”
3. Have commitments
been made to make eating healthier and exercising more accessible?
4. Were efforts
tailored to specific audiences?
5. Did they begin with
target markets that were ready for action?

The “Let’s Move” campaign is one of my favorites. It was designed to bring
awareness to
childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is
huge in our community due to the lack of affordable food for families, children
not engaging in exercise as often, and school lunches are not as healthy while
providing unhealthy snacks in vending machines.
The “Let’s Move” campaign brought more
attention to all the things that could be a component to childhood obesity. To
assist the families with the option of affording food the states have increased
the SNAP benefits. What the states have not done is put restrictions on items
that are not healthy when making purchases with SNAP cards. The states have
increased the foods that are healthy for those parents and children that
receive WIC benefits. WIC is a supplemental benefit for women that are pregnant
and children that meet the required guidelines. Children are spending less time
outdoors and more times on video games or doing more sedimentary things
requiring less moving around. Schools were required to reexamine the lunch
menus and remove unhealthy snacks from the vending machines. I believe all
these things helped the “Let’s Move” campaign gain momentum and start the path
towards better health for our children.
Therefore, I believe the campaign
created a case for the personal benefits of health. Having former First Lady
Obama on the front lines of the campaign was even a better choice for bringing
awareness. There were children all around the world joining in to do exercises
and grow healthy vegetables. The children participating were so happy and
satisfied with campaign. Commitments were made to make eating healthier and
exercising more accessible. I mentioned a few in the above paragraphs. Yes, the
efforts tailored to specific audiences. The school aged kids
were highly targeted during this
campaign and were the parents of school aged children. The targets did not
begin with markets that were ready for action. “The school meal nutrition
standards had not been updated in 15 years and the funding was increased for
the first time in 30 years” (Let’s Move, 2017).
