Evidence‐based Research Paper Illness Prevention/ Health Promotion Intervention Paper
a) Choose one community health nursing‐related topic of interest to you. Examples might include bioterrorism; communicable disease control, environmental health issues, cultural impact on health, poverty, and urban/rural health, migrant health, compromised populations, violence and abuse, health care policy, or global health issues. The selected issue is within population-based illness prevention health promotion (e.g., smoking cessation, immunization, breast cancer screening) Thus your final topic might be smoking cessation in adolescents, immunizations for remote areas, or hyperlipidemia among the adult population. Choice of the topic will need to be selected no later than two weeks [December 10] to proceed with your topic of interest. Consult with the instructor for final approval of topic and/or if needing clarification or direction.

b) Review current evidence‐based literature on this topic. The American Journal of Public Health, Public Health Nursing, Image: Journal of Nursing Scholarship, and Family and Community Health are examples of journals to review. Select three peer review journals that depict the state of knowledge relating to your topic of interest.

Write a paper [excluding title and references pages] on your topic, incorporating current CHN practice and examples of innovative and effective nursing interventions. Discuss the significance of the topic. Explain and examine why the topic is an issue of concern, why it is important to understand this issue, and why it is important to find a solution to this issue. In your own words, identify the implications of the evidence (study findings) for CHN practice. What other health care professionals or organizations/agencies might need to be included?

Complete your paper by suggesting the direction of future nursing health promotion/illness prevention efforts should address in your topic area. Include discussion of both nursing research and interventions targeted to professional, client, and public policy strata.
