Do you believe that old residents and store owners have a right to stay in Downtown Brooklyn?

the Albee Square Mall was replaced by City Point, which offers more upscale shopping opportunities to new residents and workers in Downtown Brooklyn and adjacent neighborhoods. However, while enjoying luxury shopping opportunities, we often forget the old community and its displacement. Are they still here? Are they gone? If they are gone, where did they go? As seen in My Brooklyn, Families United for Racial and Economic Equality (FUREE) organizes local residents to object to gentrification in Downtown Brooklyn, and fights for the original community, which comprised of mostly people of color.
I am asking you to complete three things.

First, draw your ideal Brooklyn. I am sharing what my former students did, but please see they drew their ideal ‘city.’

Second, discuss who has a right to the city (or Brooklyn). Do you believe that old residents and store owners have a right to stay in Downtown Brooklyn? If they do, how would you push the local government to protect the right for the old community?

Third, make a plan to create an ideal community in Downtown Brooklyn.

You should include your drawing and write a page-long paper. Please take a photo of your drawing and attach it on the first page of your paper. On the second page, write about who has a right to the city and make an action plan for an ideal Downtown Brooklyn.
