The purpose of this assignment is to apply the relational maintenance strategy of “openness” by completing the “love languages” assessment with you and your loved one. This can either be applied in a romantic, familial, or platonic relational content. Both you AND your relational partner will complete the Love Languages (LL) Assessment provided (located in canvas). After completing the assessment, you and your partner will have an intentional conversation where you discuss: 1) What each of your primary love languages are, 2) In what ways can your partner work to improve their affectionate communication to reflect your primary love languages, and 3) Do you feel more connected to your partner now that you know their primary love language, why or why not?
After completing this activity, you will write a 5-6 page paper to reflect on concepts discussed in both class and the textbook (specifically, you should focus on chapters 9-12) from Floyd, K. (2016). Looseleaf for Interpersonal Communication. McGraw-Hill Education. (USE CHAPTER FROM THIS BOOK), as they relate to completing your love language activity. You can pick a myriad of concepts from differing chapters or focus on concepts from one chapter; it is up to you and should be clearly laid out in your introduction paragraph.
As this is a final paper, your writing should be succinct and collegiate level. You should begin with a compelling and clear introduction paragraph to clearly state the following: 1) An intriguing way to introduce your overall paper topic. 2) What your paper plans to specifically discuss. 3) What course content you plan to connect to your experience completing the LL activity with your partner. 4) Specifically, what relational context you are applying course content to. For the main body, 5) You should draw clear connections with course content and your interactions pre-during-and post- completing the LL assessment. Be sure to utilize course terms and concepts and discuss how they are illustrated in your relational interactions. Consider what concepts from our course you found most prevalent in your interactions. What can be said about your specific interpersonal relationships using information gleaned from this course? 6) Make connections with our textbook, cited in proper APA citations and 7) Pull in at least 5 additional sources cited in APA to support the claims you make throughout your paper.
In your last paragraph in the body section state 8) what you and your loved one as interpersonal communicators can work on to improve your communication in the context you’ve discussed. Be sure to give examples and use citations. For your conclusion, you should 9) Restate the main goal/focus of your paper and how you felt completing the LL assessment, briefly review the main takeaways that you discussed (including suggestions for relational improvements), and 10) Wrap up in an engaging and relevant manner.
