Research one specific culture, read several articles on parental involvement, write a paper summarizing the articles, and reflect on how they relate to this course.
2- Answer the following questions:
What strategies can you use to ensure a successful parent-teacher conference with ELL families?
In what ways can you encourage ELL families to support their children to have a successful education?
What does a culturally supportive classroom mean to you and what would it look like in your classroom?
One of the articles must cover the differences among Exceptional Education needs and ELLs’ language differences. Also, within this paper, students will research information from a variety of sources (web pages, professional journals, texts, school-based publications, etc.) to become familiar with the following issues related to ESOL parental participation in schools:
1-Factors that affect parental involvement within the classroom and/or at home to encourage partnerships with ELLs’ families.
2- Resources to include ESOL parents and community members in the education of ELLs
3-Factors related to the effect of culture in language learning and school achievement for ELLs from diverse backgrounds.
This assignment will support students in establishing a comfortable environment that accepts and fosters diversity.
The students will demonstrate knowledge and awareness of varied cultures and linguistic backgrounds and create a climate of openness, inquiry, and support by practicing strategies such as acceptance, tolerance, resolution, and mediation as evidence in the culminating construction of a culturally and linguistically appropriate even and its corresponding invitation.
