Statement of Professional Identity
As you write this assignment, recognize that your statement can be used as part of your job or internship search portfolio and should represent your best work. The assignment should be in APA (7 ed) format and be 5-7 pages. This document will likely be edited as you progress through your program; however, this first document will be the foundation of your professional identity statement. Be sure that your writing is professional. As you prepare this statement, be sure to include material from your text plus at least 5 additional scholarly sources.
You should include, but are not limited to, your perspective on the following questions:
How does your understanding of the history of the counseling profession impact your desire to work in the counseling field?
How do you believe healing and change occurs? Based on your beliefs on this, find evidence that supports your belief system from perspectives and/or theories in counseling and psychotherapy.
Are there areas in which you specifically have interest or want to specialize? What specialty resonated with you thus far in the program?
Research the Outcome Rating Scale and Session Rating Scale developed by Miller S. D. & Duncan, B. L. (2000). Share the benefits and challenges to using these brief rating scales. Then speak to how you will use this or other outcome measures in your future practice.
How will you approach self-care both now and in the future?
After reading about clinical supervision in the text and at least one additional resource, please speak to the type of clinical supervision that will work well with your personality and professional style. Also share what responsibilities you see yourself having as a supervisee.
Briefly explain how you would explain your professional identity to someone outside of the field of counseling.
