Encoding and Decoding

Complete this mini-analysis by carefully following the instructions and rubric. This assignment includes up to 10 points of extra credit.
Both semiotics and Stuart Hall’s encoding-decoding model analyze the meanings behind cultural products and artifacts, conveyed subtly through social/cultural myths and ideologies. Both approaches are concerned with the representations and assumptions embedded in popular culture, from television and advertising to news, sports and more.
Write a mini-analysis essay that does the following:
Describes one of the artifacts below in precise, sharp detail (a, b, or c)
Explains the semiotic method of analyzing connotative meanings and analyzes what connotative meanings can be derived from the artifact using semiotic analysis.
Explains the encoding-decoding method of reading meanings and analyzes what dominant and alternative readings can be derived from the artifact using that model.
Compares the similarities and differences of the two analyses (semiotics and encoding-decoding) using information from the readings.
