Research a Child & Adolescent Abnormal Development Topic
Choose 3 articles from any periodical or journal on one of the following topics:
· Psychological disorders identified in children/adolescents and the impact on their lives. (Depression, Bipolar, Schizophrenia)
· Health related disorders identified in childhood and adolescence and their impact on the child and adolescent.
· Communication and learning disorders in children and the impact on adolescence
· Substance Use and the impact on adolescent behavior
· Intellectual Disability and Developmental Disorders diagnosed in childhood
· How does Autism Spectrum Disorder affect children and adolescents and impact their families?

Using the following questions to research and write your paper from the viewpoint of a scientist seeking the truth.
1. Who is the audience for the article (e.g., parents, teachers, adolescents)?
2. What is the topic of the article? What are some examples of information provided?
3. Does the article emphasize heredity (nature) or environment (nurture)?
4. To which domain of child development does it refer (physical, socioemotional, cognitive)?
5. Does the article rely on scientific findings, expert opinion, or case example?
6. Do the conclusions of the article seem valid?
In a conclusion page (3-4 paragraphs), give your personal evaluation of what was covered in the article, and whether it advances our knowledge and understanding of child development as well as what other research could be done in the future.
Writing the Assignment
1. Must be three double-spaced pages in length (excluding title, conclusion and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style.
2. Must include a separate title page with the following:
o Title of paper
o Student’s name
o Course name and number
o Instructor’s name
o Date submitted
3. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
o Begin with an introduction to the selected topic in which you define all concepts that will be discussed in the paper.
o For example, if you select “How do memory and intelligence change as we age?” as your topic, you will need to define the terms memory, intelligence and
4. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
5. Must end with a separate conclusion page that reaffirms your thesis.
o Conclude with an answer to the selected question. Did the evidence you surveyed answer the question satisfactorily? Include your analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the available evidence.
o If possible, suggest the course that future research should take if answers to the selected question are less than conclusive.
o Must use at least three scholarly sources.
o It is important that you ask yourself if the articles specifically address the selected topic. It is not always easy to find the right articles. Thus, give yourself some time to search before you finalize your selection.
o You may reference your textbook and other required materials from the course; however, these will not fulfill the resource requirements.
6. Must document all sources in APA style with in-text citations.
7. Must include a separate reference page.
o The reference section will be the final page of the paper.
8. Overall your paper will include a separate title page, 3 full pages of content, a separate conclusion page and a separate reference page for a total of 6 pages.
