Immunity Project

Here’s the written explanation of this project:
Your Objective:
Create a children’s book story depicting the concerted effort of the human immune system as it fights off a bacterial infection.
Through your story, you’ll describe how the immune system attacks a bacterial invader.
You will demonstrate your understanding of the immune defenses and the cells involved.
You must include:
A plot! Make up a story
Describe the characters (immune cells)
Give them some challenges/obstacles
Resolution
Characters analogous to the cells of the immune systems
A full list of required cells to include are provided in the rubric
Disorders of immune system
Details about this are also in the rubric
* This is an overview of the project. The details of what needs to be included in your story can be found in the mastery column of the rubric. Make sure you look at the rubric!
Format:
This project is a written assignment. However, I want to encourage you to think outside of the box! As a bare minimum, you should submit your story as a no-frills, typewritten document. That is totally acceptable and adequate. However, you may use other formats to tell your story if you want to have more fun with it. Here are some things students have done in previous semesters:
Use powerpoint or google slides to simulate pages turning, or to easily include images with the text.
Use a storytelling app or other software to create a digital book (you do NOT need to pay for any apps to do this assignment)
Create a comic book (hand drawn or digitally)
Record your story in audiobook format (you must also include a written transcript for it).
You are encouraged to use any medium or format of your choosing, so long as your written story satisfies the rubric requirements and your formatting doesn’t detract from the content. I am grading you on the story, so don’t feel like you need to fuss over the presentation of it… that’s just extra, for fun.
Illustrations/images are optional, but I will throw you a few bonus points for including them.
Be creative!
