Sport Psychology in Action Project
PURPOSE:
To provide an opportunity for students to observe sport psychology in action during real performance situations.
To provide students with the opportunity to utilize video editing software.
DIRECTIONS:
Part I: Video clips
Provide the URL or edited video clip for five performance video clips that demonstrate different psychological variables (principles, concepts, theories, or hypotheses) that influence performance either positively or negatively.
I do not want an entire 2-3 hour game video, so you will need to use video editing to provide a shorter clip of the situation within the longer game.
To download and/ or edit a copywritten YouTube video, you must download the video into your computer using a program such as Keepvid or VLC YouTube downloading. These are free online video programs that allow you to download a copyrighted YouTube video. To edit long videos. see the video editing page within this module for directions).
NO MOVIE clips acceptable!!!
The URLs or edited video clip links must be turned in with the written report described below in Part II.
No video clips = no project points!
You CANNOT use video clips shown as examples in class or listed in the Additional Topic Discussion sections in the Canvas modules.
This project is NOT a video editing project but use of a specific video or editing of a video must be of a quality that provides a clear understanding of the situation.
If you edit a video clip the easiest way to turn it in will be to create your own YouTube video with its own URL. (see video editing page within this module for directions).
Part II: Written paper
This written portion of the project is an accumulation of 15 weeks-worth of knowledge. As such, you are expected to provide thorough and detailed information of the psychological variables (principles, concepts, theories, or hypotheses). The written report should be approximately 4-5 pages per topic and must be typewritten, double spaced and must follow the designated format.

The written report must be typewritten, double spaced and must follow this format for each of the five topic sections.
NO essay formatted projects will be accepted.
The written report MUST address the following four points for each of the five theories, principles or concepts selected:
Example: name of the theory, principle, or concept
(1) Introduction – provide a brief introduction explaining what the video is about. (1 point possible)
(2) Research review – provide a complete review of the research pertaining to the principle, concept, theory, or hypothesis that is being demonstrated within your video clip. (4 points possible)
(3) Integration – explain how your video clip situation can be explained by or relates to the principle, concepts theory or hypothesis discussed above. (3 points possible)
(4) Conclusion(s) – provide an argument as to whether this video portrayed an appropriate or inappropriate way to deal with this performance situation. If it is an appropriate strategy, provide explanations why you feel it was appropriate. If not an appropriate strategy, provide some alternative strategies to deal with this situation making sure to explain your reasoning. (3 points possible)
