The paper should include at least 7 pages of text with additional pages to accommodate required figures and pertinent
references.
First you MUST choose recently published article (2016-2021) from the
literature related to one of the topics/methods that we covered in class then
obtain other related references cited in that article and write a paper were
discus and summarize the work in the article that you chose and the
references and connect it to the material we learned in the class
Your paper should include such points as :
-the principals behind the technique
– how the technique is used,
– what kind of instrumentation is currently used to perform the technique,
– what samples or solutes the technique is used to analyze, and
– what advantages or disadvantages the method has versus other current techniques.
-a brief review of the properties of the solute of interest,
– how these properties are used to analyze the solutes,
– what type of techniques are available or used for analyzing the solutes, and
– the advantages or disadvantages of these techniques. These items, again, should be
related as much as possible to the material discussed in the class lectures. The content of these papers should be related to the general principals and theory given in
the class lectures to whatever extent as possible
I. Title Page
Name, semester, course, professor, title of paper.
II. Abstract
100 – 200 words
III. Introduction
General overview of instrument, where does it fit? – spectroscopy,
chromatography, electrochemistry, etc…
IV. Experimental
Instrumentation, what are the components, how are they arranged, what is their
purpose, show diagrams, specs
V. Theory
How does the instrument work, what are the fundamental principles, equations
(mathematical and/or chemical).
VI. Applications (summarize the article that you chose from
the literature and discuss how they used the instrumental method
to understand the system they are studying) For what applications is the instrument used, table, choose one or two
applications and discuss in detail, what existing problem does the instrument
help solve, how is it an improvement over previous techniques or instruments for
this application.
VII. References
