In this assignment you will go to a site that has as geologic hazard, describe what the problem is, and think of ways the problem could be controlled.
First, find a site that has a geologic problem. Erosion and mass wasting are the most common, but you could visit a fault, volcano, tsunami prone area, etc. If you can’t fine one ask me and I’ll show you some, but you will get more points if you find your own site. Make sure you are working at a safe location. Watch out for traffic and other hazards.
Take photos of the site. Make sure they show the problem and include yourself in one of the photos.
Next, write a paper (2-3 pages double spaced) describing the problem and possible solutions. This paper will include these sections:
Location – Describe where the site is and when you visited it, include a map.
Problem – Describe what is occurring at the site and why you think it is happening.
Solution – Think of ways you could solve the problems and describe how they would work.
You must use photos, maps, and diagrams to illustrate the problem. However, they do not count towards the paper length.
Finally, save and upload the paper by the beginning of class on Tuesday, December 7th.
