Econ research paper

There are a few distinct sorts of economic term papers that you may write: literature surveys, issue papers (choose an issue or public policy and argue for/against), theoretical essays or empirical papers (data analysis using descriptive statistics).
General guidelines are: minimum 10 pages. Must have: Abstract, Intro, Body (Review of Literature, Analysis), Conclusion, References, and Footnotes.
Abstract: An abstract summarizes, usually in one paragraph, the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) the overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; 2) the basic design of the study; 3) major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and, 4) a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.
Intro: Statement of topic. Rationale for studying it and history. Describe organization of paper.
Body: Include a literature review (review of past papers examining your topic). Your analysis of the literature and what economic theory(ies) apply to the topic.
If doing your own empirical data analysis (optional but has the potential to earn a very high grade) then you will need a discussion of the data you used and the analysis you conducted. Appropriate tables and graphs.
Conclusion: Summary of findings.

All margins should be one inch. Use a standard type face in 12 point font. Indent your paragraphs. Double space the text; single space footnotes, endnotes and long quotations. Single space within each reference entry and double space between reference entries. Since hyperlinked items are often underlined, use italics, rather than underlining, for titles of books and periodicals. No need for a cover page
