The goal of this research paper is to master the literature as well as demonstrate a student’s ability to apply the research and theory that they have learned throughout this course.
As a County Commissioner, you are asked to develop a program that will address mental illness among the offender population processed through the criminal justice system. Your programs have been put in place. Describe the journey of an offender with mental illness through your newly revised criminal justice system.
PART I: The first part of the research paper includes a literature review:
Choose a DSM-V Mental Health Diagnosis (choose one your offender will have). Discuss the symptoms of the disorder and conventional treatments for the identified diagnosis.
Provide a detailed analysis of possible assessment strategies for identifying this mental illness in the correctional system.
Provide a detailed analysis of the interventions that have been found to be effective with treating this mental illness in the criminal justice system.
The review will be a summary and analysis of selected academic journal articles, government reports, videos, practical reports, and/or textbook chapters related to that topic. The literature review should focus on the most current information, should be thorough in its coverage of the topic (between five to eight references), and should be between 8-10 pages.
