Please answer two of the following questions in organized, formal, analytical essays, of at least eight hundred words each, that you submit together as one file. I do not want you to simply list out page after page of facts and quotes. If you do that, you will not earn a high score, because you will have written a report. You need to think about these questions, draw on what we have covered, and provide convincing answers, backed up with evidence and specific examples, and cited. No citations means no passing grade.
the examples and specifics you provide have to be found in some combination of the textbook, lectures, and primary source documents
As Frederick Douglass wrote in 1855, “The morality of a free society can have no application to slave society. Slaveholders have made it almost impossible for the slave to commit any crime, known either to the laws of God or to the laws of man. If he steals, he takes his own; if he kills his master, he imitates only the heroes of the Revolution.” What is Douglass’ criticism of slavery here? In his analysis, why are enslaved people not subject to the morality of the society that enslaves them, to the extent that he believes it nearly impossible for enslaved people to commit crimes, including killing the master?
What factors and events led to Kansas becoming the site of so much violence in the 1850s?
Assess the validity of this statement – the Confederacy lost the war but won the peace (meaning what followed the war). Provide ample evidence to support your assessment.
