Final Project
Use the excel file “Crime”
(There are 7 variables presented in the Crime File data. One dependent and 6 regressors.
The Excel file has 2 sheets. One with the definitions of the variables and the other with the data. The dependent variable is “total overall reported crime rate per 1 million residents.”
1. Put together a table with summary statistics (max, min, median, mean and standard deviation) for all of the variables.
2. Put together a table of correlations (correlation matrix) for all of the possible correlation coefficients. Choose 2 of the correlations.
Write a few sentences about the sign (positive or negative) and magnitude of each correlation you have chosen. The key issue for you to address in your discussion is whether or not the correlation sign and magnitude are what you would have expected.
3. Run a regression with all 6 explanatory variables. Present the results and
briefly (1 paragraph) talk about the results. Statistically significant, signs as expected or not, etc.
4. As mentioned in class, it often happens that the results of running a regression are quite different
than expected. Run 3 more regressions.
Try 3 subsets of the 6 variables. Write 2-3 sentences for each regression you run explaining why you think your choice of variables might produce better results.
Present the results of the 4 regressions you ran in a table.
IF YOU NEED MORE INFORMATION LET ME KNOW.
THANK YOU
