Students will pick a text or source material we have gone over in class (see
list below) and adapt a part of that text (a moment, scene, character, genre,
etc.) into a form of new media. Forms of new media include: short film,
interactive social media account, music video, web series, virtual experience,
blog, website, etc. Students will adapt the source material into a form of new
media in order to expand upon its original impact in a contemporary way. For
example, if you felt Hedvig didn’t get to speak for herself as much as she
should have, what would her YouTube vlog be like? Etc.
PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Presentation must be at least 15 minutes long, no more than 20 min long. If
you go over 20 minutes, I will stop you and you will be graded on what you have
presented in the first 20 minutes.
2. Presentation will consist of classmates experiencing the presenters’ new
media work, then the presenter discussing:
>why you chose the source material that you did
>why and how you chose to adapt it the way that you did
>at least two artistic goals for the project (what do you want your audience to
feel/experience/think etc.)
>Explain how your new media form expands upon the original source material.
>how might your new media form benefit contemporary audiences
3. BE PREPARED in case your technology for your presentation fails. Have a back-up plan.
4. The presentation will be accompanied by a 2-3 page informal reflective journal
answering all of the above questions in Number 2. You should upload this to the
Google Classroom Assignment Prompt.
5. Each day the project is late, 3 points will be taken off its total grade. No
journals or projects will be accepted more than a week after its due date
