Objective: Assess cognitive behavior therapy and its approach to counseling.
The cognitive behavior therapy approach, which was introduced in the 1950s, was revolutionary. Rather than focusing on the past (psychoanalysis) and emphasizing observable behavior (behaviorism), the cognitive approach placed its attention on mental processes, particularly our beliefs/thinking as the predominant cause of our emotions, behaviors, and decisions that we make.
