It doesn’t have to be four pages, but I chose four because there are four different sections, each with its own set of questions.
Section 1: Social Construction of identity
1. Referring to what we learned about the nature of our own individual identities, write about what is meant by the “social construction of identity” as it relates to gender.
Section 2: Systemic Solution(s)
1. Given what you have learned about the history of oppression in regard to identities in our region, nation, and systems, give one or two solutions for how we can build a community that is more inclusive to all races and identities in general. Make sure that your answer includes and defines “systemic.” This is where the conflict perspective of sociology and principle of Power, Privilege, and Inequity is helpful.
Section 3: Choose and Analyze
1. Choose at least one current and legitimate sourced news article regarding ANY SUBTOPIC surrounding the major themes of 2020. Please include the title of the article in your essay and a link to your article.
2. Discuss your take on the article, news video, broadcast, whatever you found, through the sociological lens. Draw from videos, textbook, discussion, etc. and use at least 5 terms in your essay. Include at least one reference to a theory you think applies to your discussion.
Section 4: Power, Privilege and Inequity & The News.
1. Choose a story from 2020-21 connected to the killings of Breonna Taylor. Analyze the context and content (i.e. frame or setting or meaning) of the news
article in terms of how it relates to Power, Privilege and Inequity on a
“systemic” level. Show how the Conflict Theory applies.
Please attempt to make each answer to each question roughly three paragraphs long if at all possible. It’s fine if you don’t. However, it would be really appreciated.
