I want you to think about the characteristics of the intercultural social world you hope could be possible in the year 2050 if we follow the principles and concepts we’ve been focusing on this semester. There will be many tensions and conflicts in 2050, just as there are today, and we are likely to be fully facing the consequences of the climate crisis, over-population, resource depletion, and clashes of cultures, along with all the challenges that accompany these issues. But as human beings capable of imagining the future, we can find ways to work collaboratively, live peacefully, and engage in creative problem solving to confront the challenges we will face. In this final assignment, I want you to envision this intercultural future and how we might create it, as well as what role you might play in making it happen.
Format: Your paper should use 12-point font, single-spaced text, 6-8 points or 1 blank line between paragraphs. Please use section headings for Parts A-C. The minimum word count is 1600 words, but you will likely need more to adequately describe the desired intercultural future that you envision.
Title Page: Please include a title page with the title of the assignment, your name, our course title and instructor name, semester (Fall 2021), and date of submission.
Part A: Describe characteristics of the intercultural social world in which you would like to be living in the year 2050. Think about the personal, family, community, and societal attitudes, values, traditions, interpersonal relationships & dynamics, and intercultural communication practices that you hope will be prevalent in the world you envision. Imagine how you envision people interacting across cultural differences, how they might solve problems they are confronting, how they might resolve differences between groups. Consider possibilities for design of communities, policies, and technologies that would facilitate intercultural communication. (600+ words)
Part B: Describe an intercultural code of ethics consisting at least 5 intercultural values and principles that will be important in guiding interactions within societies across the globe between now and 2050 in order to realize this intercultural world of the future. (500+ words)
Part C: Describe 3-5 intercultural communication skills and competencies you will personally need to help create this intercultural world of the future and to be a contributing member of this world. Consider how you can develop and continually improve these skills and competencies. (500+ words)
