Purpose and Introduction:
So far this semester, we have encountered and discussed a variety of key terms that help us understand and perhaps even broaden our understanding of writing/composing.
The focus for this project is to extend our understanding of a key term by looking at how the key term operates across different media.
You will create a print-based text (examples below) that teaches the class about this term. This project will serve as a resource for the entire class throughout the semester.
At the end of this project, the goal is that we all have a richer vocabulary with which to talk about writing and editing in print and online spaces.

Rhetorical Rationale
What should my Print-Based Text for the Key Term Project include?
The term’s definition(s): A thorough explanation of your key term, drawing from at least 2 sources from our course. Your definition should illustrate that you’ve read and understood the text(s) and that you can explain the term effectively and clearly in your own words.
Two explanatory images: Select two images that connect your term and will help us to remember the term. The images you choose should demonstrate your careful selection of the images and thoughtful reflection on the term itself. In other words, how does this image help to connect us to how you are defining your chosen key term.
Two contemporary examples: Select examples of how your term works across two different media environments. As you select, consider all the different ways you use media in your life – film, TV, visual art, magazines, newspapers, email, social media, video games, YouTube, Pinterest, etc. Along with providing the specific example, provide your discussion regarding how your key term, as you have defined it, is operating in the artifact. In other words, how does this example help us to better understand and contextualize how that key term is being considered in the example.
What do I need to consider as I compose print-based key term project?
For this project, you will develop and design a text that utilizes a variety of modes to most effectively engage and teach us about our key term. While this is considered a print-based text, you will explore and choose a print-based text that affords you the opportunity to design a product that most appropriately achieves the purpose for this project. Some ideas include, a newsletter, magazine spread, pamphlet, Zine, graphic novel (ish), etc. (This is not an essay! In fact, using an essay format is not appropriate for the rhetorical situation). Use this project as a way to really engage with the rhetorical choices needed for the situation given.
As you design your project, carefully consider your design choices (color, size, images, etc.). Be creative and rhetorically intentional in your choice of how to present your key term and be thoughtful about your choices, considering what print media and materials are most appropriate and effective for teaching us about your key term.

What do I need to include in my rhetorical rationale?
In addition to your print-based key term project, you will compose a one-page single spaced rhetorical rational that describes your composing process for this project. Describe and reflect upon your experiences from the time you started composing this project until you completed it. In this rationale, discuss your decisions regarding the print media with which you chose to work, your design choices, why your media and design is appropriate given your specific key terms, and what you intend for us to learn from your project. Put simply, the Rhetorical Rationale is a chance for you to defend and justify your rhetorical strategies and the approach you took, how/why your project is effective given your key term, the purpose for your project, and your audience.
