When using APA format, follow the author-date method of in-text citation. All sources that are cited in the text must appear in the reference list.
Instructions:
Has no preamble but begins straightaway with a clear, forceful and comprehensive sentence which delivers succinctly and exactly what your position on the Activity questions is.
Uses plain and concise language, has vivid and concrete diction, and is grammatically correct.
Is structured as an argument (thesis, development & proof, conclusion) not as a book report.
Following the opening sentence– the thesis sentence–each successive sentence adds one new idea to the sentence before it.
Each of the successive sentences, each with their new and additional idea, is connected by rigid logic and plain sense to the sentence preceeding it.
The final sentence sums up the entire paragraph and adds a point of clarity to the whole.
Demonstrates (i.) original, (ii.) unique, and (iii.) important insight that does not merely recapitulate, review, or report on the question or the text and ideas under study. (Keep in mind Dr. Johnson’s reply to an author who sent him a manuscript to vet: “Sir, your document is both good and original. Unfortunately, the part that is good is not original and the part that is original is not good”.)
Essay Checklist.
The length of the essay will be between eighteen hundred and twenty-five hundred words.
The purpose of the essay will be to prove conclusively that you have engaged substantially with the course ideas and materials.
The subject of the essay will be your own independent, fresh, vivid, and meaningful insight from your study in the course.
The initialisation of the essay will be a clear, plainly-written, and concisely-expressed statement of thesis contained in one single sentence properly structured within a short opening paragraph.
The method of the essay will be to copy-and-paste each successive Individual Discussion post from the course into a blank document, and then edit, arrange, delete, harmonise, correct, improve and solidify the written material thus available into a fresh, cohesive, uniquely-insightful, and pleasing whole.
In other words, the weekly paragraphs together for the first draft of your Term Essay: thus, the most difficult stage of a major essay is already done.
The mode of the essay will be plain-language, academic, concise, direct, rationally-structured and grammatically-correct prose.
The result of the essay will—all things well—be a high assignment grade.
