The Research Essay counts 40% of your grade. Part of the grade will be based on how well you follow directions. The topics provided are all contemporary issues—therefore, do not place them in a historical context. You may not use Wikipedia as a source, and do not list references that don’t appear in the text of your essay. Use sound Logic for your essay. The 5-7 page length (min of 2000 words) of the research paper does not include the title page nor the reference list but does include the abstract.
Your Research Essay Must Include the Following:
An Introduction that provides enough background information to acquaint your audience with your claim. The introductory paragraph doesn’t have to be long, but it should be sufficient for the topic and include a thesis statement.
A Thesis Statement, preferably at the end of your Introduction. A thesis statement is a single sentence that expresses the main idea or claim of your essay.
Body Paragraphs, which provide evidence and details to support your Thesis. There is no minimum of how many you need but given that you need at least 6 sources and 5 pages you are probably going to need at least 8-10 body paragraphs.
Each body paragraph should contain a Topic Sentence at the beginning of the paragraph that states the point the paragraph will cover.
Each paragraph must have correct APA In-text Citations whenever you borrow from another source, whether as a direct quote or even a paraphrase. In-text citations must be in your reference list.
A Conclusion. This is usually a restatement of your argument containing a sense of finality and should include a call to action.
Your sources must be listed alphabetically in your Reference List, a separate page at the end of the essay.
Length = 5-7 pages (minimum of 2000 words). You may go over or under half a page, but no more.
Include a Title Page and an Abstract no author’s note needed.
Number of sources = 6. No more than two Internet (website) sources. This does not include anything found on the library database or most of Google Scholar (these are considered electronic versions of printed sources).
Make sure to properly format the paper using APA, page numbers, a title in title caps, in text citations and a reference page.
review all of them on the Purdue website.
Work on the thesis. Right now it seems to be saying two different things so focus on the main side of the argument.
need more sources (a min of 6) and make sure to explain why each source is credible on the subject. then need to provide evidence for your sources that supports your claim and ALL evidence should have an in-text citation.
