What is the scope and the prevalence of the problem?

Evidence Based Practice Power Point: For this project, select an issue of interest about which you would like to develop more knowledge in order to enhance your future practice with issues related to substance use disorders or co-occurring substance use disorder populations. If you choose co occurring populations one of the disorders must be an SUD for example alcohol use disorder and depression ; do not choose two non SUDs on which to present your findings. (You have likley already completed this portion of the assignment for your paper earlier in the semester. However if after receiving feedback on the earlier assignment , you choose to change your focus, you may do so. You are not required to keep the same topic or the same EBPs if you wish to change them.)
You will need to conduct a literature review on this topic to identify important background information that makes clear why the area you have selected is important. It is anticipated that you will use the research you completed on the Evidence Based Practice Paper earlier in the semester to develop those slides. When developing these presentations, think of your slide as your outline of highlights you want to present. Use the Notes tab at the bottom of the slide to tease out more specifics. Think of this Power Point as if you were going to present your findings live to an audience. Instructors should be able to have a clear vision of your findings.
You will determine how many slides you need for each section. Presentations that are less than 25 slides or more than 35 slides will have points deducted. Your power point will cover the following areas.
1. 1-2 slides with 1-2 paragraphs describing your topic. What is the issue, explain the problem or population you are presenting.
2. What is the scope and the prevalence of the problem? (The substance use disorder or co-occurring substance use disorder problem is CLEARLY identified and WELL supported. Essentially the reader is left with a clear understanding of why the problem is important)
3. Background on the problem is illustrated [including qualitative (ie describing the quality of the problem in size, appearance, value etc…) and/or quantitative (ie describing the quantity of the problem through measurement)
4. Impact of the problem is explained- Based on your selected population or group explain how the problem is impacting your selected group; this could include how the problem impacts the person, the family, the community, legal considerations, policy considerations, global health considerations. Think about the big picture. For example if your topic is Homelessness and SUDs, are outcomes different due to the homelessness than for substance users that are not homeless? Does the SUD manifest itself differently in a homeless population? more or less severe? Is it more difficult to access resources and/or do you have to engage clients differently? Are there more or less severe outcomes in the homeless SUD population? ie OD, suicide, co-morbid medical or mental health issues. These among many others are the kinds of questions you want to be asking yourself in this section at is pertains to your population. Also consider a macro perspective, How does this problem impact society, the community? Are there legal considerations or policy considerations? What are the global health considerations?
5. Pick a minimum of two interventions (evidence based practices) which address the problem outlined above on which to focus the remainder of your power point and describe any studies that support the effectiveness of these interventions. You will complete slides on the following bullet points for EACH of your two EBPs.
Provide a brief description of the evidence based practice- give us the highlights of the EBP and how it is used. Do not use multiple slides to provide details on every aspect of your EBP. Give an overview of the key salient points about the EBP. How would the EBP be used with your chosen population
Note the relevance of the evidence based practice- How good a fit is the EBP for your population? What data do you have to support that?
Review the research results and discuss the degree of evidence available (or lack thereof) to support these interventions to address the problem
What does the research say about these EBPs success across genders, race, age, ethnicity and/or different cultures?
What were the strengths of the studies you chose to support your EBP? This could include sample size, longevity of the studies, follow up etc.
Review any obstacles, barriers or short comings of initiating the evidence based practices you selected
6. Review the implications on how this new knowledge might impact your future practice in this area. Provide examples on how you could see the use of your selected EBPs in clinical practice. Essentially you are telling how you personally might use this knowledge to further your own practice as a social worker.
7. Provide a list of resources pertaining to your chosen topic and the EBPs you selected. Final slide is your citation of sources using APA format
What you turn in/Format: A blank Power Point template will be provided to you with an outline of the headers for your slides. The body of this Power Point should be at least 25 slides but no more than 35 slides. You must use a minimum of five professional journal articles as sources for the paper. References must be cited on the final slide of your power point. . Please proofread your slides. Poor grammar and typos can greatly impact your overall grade.
