Three of our native forest trees have met with disasters over the last 100 years: American chestnut, Castanea dentata; American elm, Ulmus americana; ash, genus Fraxinus. For each of these, investigate:
1) the species as it was before the event e.g. habitat, niche, economic importance to humans
2) the problem and why it occurred
3) the outcome and the consequences to the species and to human use
4) note the differing outcomes for each species, why you think it turned out as it did
I asked about what students preferred as a due date and then it occurred to me that anyone can submit it whenever it suits their own schedule up to that date. So, it will be due on the last Friday of class, December 17. You can submit a pdf again, right into the box.
Use a minimum of 6 sources. Length is more up to you, but probably 6 – 8 pages
