36 Hours is a popular subsection of NY Times Travel. Its theme is simple: “What to do when you’ve got 36 hours to get to know a city.” Travel writers have written articles about domestic and international cities in the past. Sometimes very large cities like New York are broken up into boroughs, or interesting neighborhoods. There has never been a 36 Hours in… about Staten Island, until now. (*Students who do not currently live on Staten Island, can opt to do a 36 Hours in…on their neighborhood or town.) Travel writing is both descriptive, and persuasive. You will utilize the skills learned in previous assignments to give the reader a complete impression of Staten Island. Multimedia versions of this assignment are welcome, like for example a story map, or a multi-layered Google My Map.
