Papers should be in a standard 12-point font (e.g. Times New Roman or Cambria), with 1” x 1” margins, and double–spaced. Pages must be numbered and labeled according to MLA conventions. The top left hand side should include your name, the date, the course, and the name of your instructor.

Social Contract Theory: The Somali Pirates
Plot/Background: You are the captain of an unarmed shipping vessel transporting goods to Asia. After you pass through the Suez Canal, you are chased by Somali Pirates off the African coast. You can see the pirates’ vessel is faster than your own, that they are armed, and that they have tools with which to scale the hull of your vessel. As the captain, you are responsible for the 9 other crew members and the cargo of the ship. You can tell from your radar that there are no other ships in the nearby vicinity.
Question: Using what you know about Social Contract Theory, explain what you will do. Be sure to illustrate a thorough knowledge of Social Contract theory in your essay, as that will be a significant part of your grade.
